Kosovo is currently the newest nation of the 21st century. Sandler Trade is preparing for the Embassy of Kosovo in Washington, several analyses of U.S. market opportunities for Kosovo’s exports, including an update of the webinar presentation CEO Marideth Sandler offered in March 2009 in English, Serbian, and Albanian (http://www.ustr.gov/sites/default/files/uploads/gsp/asset_upload_file25_15530.pdf).
At that time, Ms. Sandler headed the U.S. Generalized System of Preferences and Kosovo had just weeks before gained GSP eligibility so that its exports could enter the U.S. market free of duty.
The United States, however, is not the only market where Kosovo’s products are finding ready borrowers. At recent discussions at the German Marshall Fund, His Excellency Ambassador Spahiu of the Embassy of Kosovo focused on Kosovo’s relationships with its neighboring countries and the European Union, NATO, and the International Monetary Fund.
Mr. Ilir Deda, Senior Political Adviser to the President of Kosovo, highlighted the country’s importance as a stabilizing force in the region. Kosovo is currently serving as Chair of the Central Europe Free Trade Area (CEFTA).
After the presentation, the Sandler Trade team of Lahiru Aluthgama and James Duguid met with Gjeneza Budima, First Secretary at the Embassy of Kosovo, to provide her an update on the export project and to talk in detail about the opportunities for Kosovo’s exporters in the U.S. market, particularly those in the wood industry. Ms. Budima plans to travel to Kosovo in mid-July to meet with Kosovo’s exporters and will use the updated information provided by Sandler Trade.
